Thaipusam is celebrated to commemorate this victory of good over evil.

The most important event on the day is that of devotees carrying various types of Kavadi to the Murgan temples. The most important Kavadi pilgrimage takes place at the Batu caves in Malaysia.

When evil dominates the good, the Divine takes the initiative to set the house in order. Thai Poosam is the day when the Archetypal Being Muruga was gifted the mystical ‘Vel’ by his mother Parvati to awaken higher consciousness.

The power of the Vel penetrates through thick layers of debt, diseases and karmic sufferings and allows superior consciousness to enter our mind. On the 'Poosam' star in the month of 'Thai' (January February) the energy is ripe for spiritual ascension and development. "Poosam"  or  "Pushya"  is  considered  by  many  to  be  the  most  auspicious  star  for spiritual development as Pushya means "nurture".

The deity associated with Pushya is Brihaspati, the 'Guru' or Teacher. Thus, Thai Poosam is a promising time to get blessed with Lord Muruga’s energies and liberate oneself from the negative clutches obstructing the path of success. This year, Thai poosam falls on January 24 th  IST. The following power objects and rituals are available so you can personally connect with this transformational energy. The services and power objects will carry the energy of transformation so you can continue to benefit from this unique planetary alignment throughout the year.

Lord Shiva gave his son eleven weapons to fight the demon. The twelfth weapon given by Goddess Parvati to Muruga was the Vel or lance. Lord Muruga was victorious over Tarakasura on the Poosam Nakshatra day in the Tamil month of Thai. The vel, also known as light, won over the dark force. Lord Muruga's Vel dispels the darkness of our lower consciousness and allows higher intelligence to unfold within our mind. The Vel represents infinite wisdom that can liberate us from negative energies. It is a tool that destroys karmic thought patterns that have gathered over many lifetimes. The vel gives us the ability to think and to act with power. Swami Ramalingam and the Light Body

2)   Thai Poosam is also the day when the great Tamil Saint Swami Ramalinga ascended, or made his final merger with the Light of Lord Shiva triumphing over the darkness. He was able to go beyond the physical body and the limited mind. Swami Ramalinga lived and maintained his body of light for 11/2 years for all to witness. On Pushya star and Full Moon day, he completely merged with the light and physically disappeared from the earth plane. No traces of his body were ever found.
